Samsung Electro-Mechanics and POSTECH sign MOU to develop materials and components talent

Samsung Electro-Mechanics (CEO Chang Duckhyun) is joining hands with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) to nurture talent who will lead the materials and components industry.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics and POSTECH have signed an MOU to establish a recruitment-linked talent development course designed to secure technological competitiveness and train professionals in the materials and components sector.

The event held at the POSTECH campus on November 18 was attended by Chang Duckhyun, CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics; Kim Dooyoung, Head of the Component Unit; Lee Shiwoo, Director of the Corporate R&D Institute; Kim Moohwan, President of POSTECH, Son Junwoo, professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering; Kim Jongkyu, Head of the Office of Planning.

Under the agreement, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will propose future technology themes related to materials and components to POSTECH, while relevant departments at POSTECH, including the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, will conduct research and run tailored training courses. The talent development course will be participated by 14 professors from POSTECH.

Selected master's and doctoral students at POSTECH in the materials and components sector, such as the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, will receive scholarships and be offered jobs at Samsung Electro-Mechanics after graduation.

Chang Duckhyun, CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, said, “As there is an increasing technological competition in the materials and components industry, it is of utmost importance to nurture professionals in order to secure technological competitiveness. This agreement with POSTECH will not only help Samsung Electro-Mechanics to strengthen its technological prowess but also contribute to reinforcing the foundation of the Korean materials and components industry.”

Kim Moohwan, President of POSTECH, said, “Our collaboration with Samsung Electro-Mechanics will play a major role in helping Korea to secure competitiveness in materials and components. As a global research-centered university, POSTECH will focus its capabilities on nurturing outstanding talent."

Meanwhile, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is developing next-generation components in the IT and automotive sector based on core technologies such as materials, multi-layer thin film molding, and microcircuit implementation. The company is securing future technologies through the Corporate R&D Institute and has a dedicated R&D organization for each business unit in an effort to timely respond to technological changes based on exceptional technology.
