Blue Elephant Wins Korea Education Donation Award
On the 12th, Samsung Electro-Mechanics received the 2025 Korea Education Donation Award for its youth education program, Blue Elephant.
The award is hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. It is an official government honor that recognizes organizations and individuals for their contributions to promoting and expanding the culture of educational donations, and is presented as a Commendation from the Minister of Education. It is widely regarded as the most prestigious award in the field of educational donations.
What makes this recognition particularly meaningful is that, among the 30 organizations selected this year, Samsung Electro-Mechanics was the only corporate recipient. This achievement further establishes Blue Elephant as a leading model for educational donation initiatives.
Blue Elephant is a youth-focused program that provides cyberbullying prevention education and supports the recovery of victimized students. Since its launch in 2020, the program has been led by Samsung Electro-Mechanics, with participation from Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, Samsung Biologics, and Samsung Bioepis.
More recently, prevention education—previously concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area—has been expanded nationwide, alongside the development of age-specific, customized programs. As a result, from 2020 to the present, a cumulative total of 160,000 elementary school students nationwide have received both online and offline educational opportunities. In 2023, a six-party memorandum of understanding was signed with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the National Police Agency, the Blue Tree Foundation, and the Community Chest of Korea to strengthen collaboration for cyberbullying prevention and youth protection.
- ▶1.6 Million Participants Since 2020, with Preventive Effects Proven by Data
Research evaluating the effectiveness of Blue Elephant’s prevention education found that participating students’ cyberbullying defense behaviors increased by 34.7%, while the perpetration rate decreased by 14.3%, quantitatively validating the program’s preventive impact. Yoon Seol (pseudonym, age 15), a student who had experienced anxiety and social withdrawal due to prolonged cyberbullying, is also preparing to return to daily life after receiving professional counseling and treatment support.
The cumulative number of youths, teachers, and parents who have participated in Blue Elephant’s prevention education, counseling, and campaign activities has reached approximately 1.6 million. In addition, Blue Elephant plans to further strengthen its cooperative framework with local governments by signing agreements with the Dongjak District Office, Dongjak–Gwanak Office of Education, Dongjak Police Station, and the Blue Tree Foundation.
From the 12th to the 14th, Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ Blue Elephant will participate in the 2025 All Neighborhood Education Donation Expo, held at Suwon Messe, where it will showcase its social contribution achievements. At the venue, students will be able to directly experience the core content of Blue Elephant’s prevention education through interactive programs such as board games, roulette, and character doll DIY activities.
On the 12th, Park Chaeyoon, a second-grade student at Cheonan Handeul Elementary School who visited the Blue Elephant experience booth, shared, “I am really proud of Blue Elephant, which protects the cyber jungle, and I will actively help friends in need in the future.”
Meanwhile, Kim Hanbi and Lee Dahyun, third-grade students at Myeongil Elementary School, commented, “It was great to be able to participate directly in various programs,” and “I was reminded of the seriousness of cyberbullying and learned how to respond if something similar happens around me,” expressing their satisfaction with the experience.
